December already!?!?

Where do the time go.. I can't beleive 2008 is almost over. Christmas shopping is 95 % done and we're pretty well broke and hoping the holiday shopping season would be over already.

I remember the holidays being such a fun and exciting time when I was a kid. We enjoyed all the Xmas goodies, went from one Xmas party to the next, and enjoyed and endless supply of gifts just begging to be torn into. Ahhh, to be young again. Now that I'm responsible for baking, financing, and taxi-ing all these holidays they've lost a bit of their sparkle.

Scoots is only in preschool, but there's Xmas treats to make for school friends, candy for her teachers, and cinnamon buns for her playgroup friends. Something tells me this will not get easier when she hits kindergarten.

To Do List:
23 treats for school kids ( Peppermint bark Hearts or Chocolate covered Cherry Cookies )

5 pkgs. candy for teachers ( Popularity Cookies)

7 pans Cinnamon Rolls for our Playgroup Friends

200 or so chocolate truffles for Xmas eve gifts (recipe yet to be determined)

2 Dozen gingerbread cookies (I'm using a mix... no one likes these but me, and boxed is fine by me)

Soo, all that baking + wrapping + last minute stocking stuffer shopping + driving here, there, EVERYWHERE (and back) = headaches and crankiness

Thank GOD for Egg nog..

Another Day Another Blog...

Today started off peachy... Jerk overslept and we had to get Scoots up and ready in 15 mins. Being the stubborn child that she is (I wonder where she gets that from...) she refused to cooperate. Finally I sent my family out the door with lunches, keys, and cereal in a bag (breakfast of champions!). Ahhhhh...the house is mine again. I made a pot of coffee and enjoyed the silence and sweet, sweet caffeine.

Stole this from Reverb this morning... I should be doing laundry, dishes, cleaning the floor.. but this is much more fun... That's right, Betty Crocker/Suzy Homemaker I'm not.

Day of Sevens:

Seven Favorite Shows:
(in no particular order)

1. Ghost Hunters: Man I love me some Steve Gonsalves
2. Paranormal State: Brian *swoon*
3. Bridezillas: I like to watch this w/Jerk, so that he put things into perspective. Yup, I have my moments, but look at how bad it COULD be.
4. Intervention: My life isn't perfect, but it could be worse..
5. What not to wear: I secretly keep hopign someone will nominate me... but then I'd have to go into the 365 mirror on national tv.. nevermind
6.No Reservations: Nothing gets me hot like alcohol & cigarettes :P
7.Hannah Montana: Wait, that's not MY favorite... excuse me, I get confused because I am forced to watch it every SINGLE day... Damn you Hannah/Miley damn you to heck!

Seven Favorite Foods:

1. Buffalo Chicken (with bleu cheese of course)
2. Anything with Feta (so stinky..so good)
3. Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream (this needs no explanation)
4. Pumpkin Pie (made without the crust like this)
5. Sweet Potato fries (with ketchup)
6. Cranberry anything
7. Pickles (preferably my gramma's)

Seven Random Photos:

Scoots..deep in thought, pondering one of life's greatest conundrums.. s'more or cotton candy? Isn't Summer wonderful...

My wedding bouquet (well not MINE, but what I hope mine will look like) Made by her...

My Grampy.. Looking dapper at my brother's wedding.. It takes a special person to pull off a bolo tie, a big belt buckle AND a plaid jacket.. but he did it well.. Miss you..

My Mother's day card from Scoots.. What I love about this 1) Scoots is just now learning to write her letters, but I appreciate the teacher writing this for her using messy letter to up the authenticity, 2) Scoots doesn't like crafts.. while she MAY (and that's a big may) have lended her thumb to use for the flowers, my guess is that the teacher had to bribe her...
Scoots was very proud to present it anyway, even if it wasn't her work...

My engagement ring..for some reason looking very yellow... The center stone came from Jerk's Gramma's engagement ring. The Jerk is constantly telling me how everyone congratulates him on getting such a nice ring... huh? I picked the damn thing out.. congratulate me! hmmph..

The magical, mystical, smiling goat.... If I ever feel the need to eat goat, I'll think of this little guy and pass....

Yup, another Scoots picture (sorry she takes up most of my hard drive space because Mommie is oh-so-un-photogenic)
Here she is, trying to drown out our lovely rendition of happy birthday.. Ungrateful little thing that she is :)

Wow..that was not as fun as I'd hoped.. Partly because I feel guilty for wasting time, and partly because I realized that there are no pictures of Jerk and I together on my computer. I can hear the dirty laundry taunting me from the hamper. "Yes yes, you stinky disgusting socks, your time has come"

The weekend round-up

Yup, I've already missed a few days, so much for being "diligent and committed" :). I do have an excuse though...

Friday afternoon my mother called to let me know my grandfather was not doing well. 10 mins later she called back to let me know he was gone. Even though my rational brain tells me "it's for the best", my heart doesn't agree. He wasn't enjoying the quality of life that I know he wanted and while he is happier and at peace now.. We'll miss him...

I haven't told Scoots yet, because I'm just not sure what to say.. She's spent alot of time with him over her short little life and now that she's 4 she'll notice his absence... They're not having a memorial service, calling hours, anything (his choice) so I'm not sure how to explain to her that Grampa is gone and not coming back... without scaring her...

On a happier note.. Jerk and I had a REAL date night. We went to see Cirque du Soleil and had a nice dinner out, alone.... Cirque du Soleil was amazing.... the performers are so small and lean, but CRAZY strong. Unfortunately the seats made me painfully aware of my wide arse.. the last time I was there I was probably 12 years old. Seats seemed much roomier. This time I got to cuddle with Jerk & the guy to my left at the SAME time. Looking back, it could have been fun, had my neighbor not been 50+, reeking of beer and some kind of stale meat, and a little too gregarious.... BUT the tickets were free, so can I really complain...

I'll try to find something a bit cheerier (wow, spell check says that a real word...) to blog about later...

Soo.. my first post.

I should probably start this off with a warning...
*WARNING!!!!*
I am new to blogging, do not expect fancy backgrounds, tons of pictures, and pretty links. I don't know how to do them and until I learn we'll all suffer through this together. Also, I have dyslexia.... ok, not really, but my brain has a hard time keeping up with my fingers and often times my typing comes out a little jumbled. I'll try and be diligent, but expect a spelling error, a grammatical oopsy here and there. As for the content of this blog... Your guess is as good as mine. Probably little glimpses of my daily life (not too many, don't need anyone dying of boredom on my account) maybe a recipe here and there... who am I kidding... This blog will be filled with meaningless dribble and such.. but feel free to tag along.....

I realize things are a little purple & green here at the moment, maybe I'll get around to fixing that. Or Maybe, you're really good at all of this computer stuff and you could make a layout for me? I'm not picky.. C'mon.. pretty pretty please?

Oh, and if you haven't noticed already, I'm a BIG fan of comma's, periods, and all other type of punctuation... Don't call the grammar police, I am well aware of my condition and have to come to accept it.
